There is another way to bring back vision to the eyes. This involves the use of some high tech stuff used by scientists to look at the stars which is called wave front technology.

This works by detecting if there are any aberrations in the eye regardless if it is in the back of the retina or inside the cornea. Once this has been analyzed, doctors can plan now the LASIK procedure to be done on the patient.

LASIK stands for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis. This is painless, touch free and noninvasive. The only hitch is probably the price. According to one newspaper report, the price range per eye is around $500 to $2500.

There is now a demand for this in the market because the person can see the striking results a day after the procedure was done.

Normally, LASIK is done with a device called the microkeratome. This creates a thin and circular flap in the cornea. Scientists have discovered a new way of doing this and using a machine called the IntraLase.

This is different because it laser energy has replaced the use of a blade. It creates a flap of cornea tissue and then is moved back over the eye covering the newly shaped cornea. This is much better since the blade can cause poorly shaped flaps which may lead to contamination and infection.

Doctors use a computer to guide the laser over the targeted area. Those who would like to undergo this procedure would have to shell out $300 per eye aside from the costs in the operation.

The key to a successful surgery is finding an experienced doctor. This person will be able to assess the condition of one’s eyes and health using a variety of tests. If no problems are found, then it is just a matter of scheduling the date of surgery.

Unlike other kinds of surgery that will take hours, LASIK can be finished in less than one minute. The patient is given a few drops of anesthesia and is awake the whole time. This is like going to the dentist but those who are a bit frightened can also be given a sedative beforehand.

The doctor will let the patient lie down and align the eye to where the laser is located. Since the person might blink, a retainer is set to avoid this from happening. A suction ring is also in place to enable the surgeon to cut the corneal flap.

The patient will be instructed to keep an eye over the light. The doctor on the other end will see it through a computer screen. The person will see laser in the form of light pulses painlessly and hear the machine doing its job of removing the excess tissues.

There might be a strange smell in the air but there is no need to worry. This normally happens during the operation which will be over shortly. The person will have to rest for few minutes before being released then sent home to rest.

Wavefront technology has truly changed the way eye surgery is done. The person can have this done in a jiffy and do things normally again after a day of rest and be able to see clearly again the sights the individual is familiar with.
